Truck Bed Mats Do More Than You May Think
Though rubber truck bed mats cost just a little, what they do may surprise you. Spray on bed liners and plastic drop in liners work great and have a place, but cheaper bed mats outperform more expensive liners in several ways. Here’s what I found by using one for several months.
Better Impact Protection
Dents to a pickup bed cost more in damage then scratches ever will. Nothing will absorb impacts and prevent damage any better than a thick rubber mat can. Not only does the rubber soak up shocks that might dent the metal underneath, impacts get spread over a larger area by the stiff nature of the material. With the right mat in place, you can be quite sure that the truck bed will stay dent free.
Superior Skid Stopping
Sliding cargo causes problems in more way than one. Loose loads may become dangerous for one thing. Not only can shifting loads damage the cargo, it can likely beat up the inside the truck bed itself as well.
Chemicals Won’t Matter
Rubber mats are unaffected by most common chemicals. Maybe you think that won’t matter, since you aren’t hauling chemicals any way. But chemicals that can turn a pickup into a mess include simple materials like oil and grease. Not only will these not affect the material, neither will whatever you use to quickly clean the mat to put it back in the same condition it was.
