Force India on the podium at Belgian F1 GP!
A new chapter was penned in the history of Indian Motorsport as Force India F1 team driver Giancarlo Fisichella secured a podium finish in the Belgian Grand Prix. The Saturday too was no less thrilling as Fisichella ended the qualifying session on pole. Fisichella had a good start too, leading in the first lap but after the safety car was deployed, he found it difficult to push against Raikkonen’s KERS equipped Ferrari.
It was race-long duel between the two after that, with Fisichella delivering lap times close to Kimi’s Ferrari. Overall, it seemed, Fisichella was quicker than Kimi, but for the KERS. The Force India driver crossed the finish line 0.939 seconds behind the victorious Raikkonen, missing his maiden win by just a whisker. The other Force India driver, Adrian Sutil on the other hand had to remain content with 11th position after an accident at the start line cost him the front wing.
Post the race, Fisichella was quoted as saying, “I am a little disappointed as I felt we could have won the race. I was unlucky with the safety car when Kimi came past me at the restart and overtook me with the KERS. Actually behind him I was quicker but with the KERS I couldn’t get past as it was impossible to be quick on the long straight. But we can’t take it away from the fantastic result, both at the track and in the factory to get this result.
After yesterday I was pretty confident to score points, it’s positive for the championship and for the coming races. Team Principal Dr. Vijay Mallya was ecstatic about the podium finish and said the race will certainly go down in the history books as India’s first ever World Championship points
